JODHPUR

Jodhpur is a town in the state of Rajasthan in India. It headquarters a district of the same name.

Formerly, it was capital of the Jodhpur state which was largest Rajputana State. It is situated 350 m. SW. of Delhi, and is connected by rail with Jaipur and Mumbi.

The State came under British protection in 1818 but revolted at the Mutiny in 1857.

The state was backward in government, education, agriculture, and manufactures. The state was known for its tin, lead, and iron. It was also known for its salt which was being made at Sambhar Lake.
