John Asser

John Asser (d. 909), also Asserius Menevensis, was a Welsh monk of St. David's, in Wales, tutor, friend, and biographer of Alfred the Great. He is said to have suggested the founding of Oxford University. He was Bishop of Sherborne (c. 895 - c. 909).
