JOHN CAMPBELL, 2ND DUKE OF ARGYLL (1678-1743), favoured the Union, was created an English peer, fought under Marlborough, opposed the return of the Stuarts, defeated Mar at Sheriffmuir, ruled Scotland under Walpole.
