John Dory

John Dory is the hero of an old popular ballad. He appears in the ballad as a ship's captain who appeals to the "good King John of France", perhaps John the Good (1319-1364), for a pardon, promising to bring him captive Englishmen. However, he himself was captured after a battle at sea.
