John Hill Burton
John Hill Burton (1809-1881) was a Scottish historian and miscellaneous writer, born at Aberdeen. He was an able man, bred for the bar. He wrote articles for the leading reviews and journals, "Life of Hume," "History of Scotland," "The Book-Hunter," "The Scot Abroad," &c. He was characterised by Lord Rosebery as a "dispassionate historian". He was Historiographer-Royal for Scotland.Nearby pages
