John Jacob Astor

John Jacob Astor (1763-1848) was a millionaire US merchant who made his fortune in the fur trade and in real estate. He was born in Germany and was son of a German peasant. He immigrated to the United States in 1784 and made a fortune of four millions in America by trading in furs. His son doubled his fortune who was known as the "landlord of New York" (1792-1875).
