John Wolcot

John Wolcot (1738-1819), better known by his pseudonym Peter Pindar, was an author, born in Devonshire. He was bred to medicine and he also practised it. He also took orders, and held office in the Church. However, took eventually to writing satires and lampoons, which spared no one, and could not be bribed into silence. He was blind for some years before he died.
