Johnny Appleseed

Johnny Appleseed (1774-1845), born John Chapman, was a Swedengorgian missionary who became a legendary folk hero in the United States in his lifetime. The first word of his nickname was derived from the first word of his born name, while the second word of his nickname was derived from the fact that he traveled throughout Ohio and Indiana planting and caring for apple Orchards. He preached the gospel as he traveled.
