Joseph Dobrovski

Joseph Dobrovski (1753-1829), also Josef Dobrovský, was a Czech philologist and historian, born in Gyarmet, in Hungary. He devoted his life to the study of the Bohemian language and literature. He wrote a history of them, the fruit of immense labour, under which his brain gave way more than once. He was trained among the Jesuits. He is known as one of the most important figures of the Czech National Revival.
