The first issue of the first newspaper of New Zealand was printed in London in 1839 before emigrants left for the new colony. The second issue of April 18, 1840 was printed in New Zealand at Port Nicholson ( New Wellington).
The New Zealand Advertiser appeared two months later in the Bay of Islands.

The Auckland Times was first published in August 1842. Initially, it was printed in a government press. After nine issues, the proprietor of Auckland Times, Henry Falwasser, was refused this facility because it failed to meet the government's expectations.

The oldest surviving paper, which is being published in New Zealand, is the Taranaki Herald of 1852.
