Kanipakam

Kanipakam is a village in Chittoor District of Andhra Pradesh in India. It is situated on the banks of Bahuda River. Kanipakam Vinayaka Temple is the major attraction of this village.

The temple was built in the early part of the 11th century CE by King Kulothunga Chola I and was expanded subsequently by the kings of the Vijayanagar Dynasty.

It is claimed and believed that the temple was constructed after a self-manifested idol of Lord Vinayaka made an appearance in the well in which the idol is housed. The water in the well is perennial. During the rainy season, the holy water from the well overflows.

Many people believe the tradition that the idol of Lord Ganesha has always been growing.
