Kemal Ataturk

Kemal Ataturk (1881-1938), born Mustafa Kemal, also called Kemal Pasha, was a Turkish patriot, general, and statesman. He was president of the Turkish republic during 1923-38. He led Turkish nationalist movement; was a general in World War I; helped defeat Allied attack on Turkey; later defeated joint Greek-Allied force. He was elected first president of the Turkish Republic. As the first president, he abolished the caliphate and introduced other policies designed to make Turkey a modern secular state. No wonder, he is known for far-reaching reforms and advocacy of modernization, and considered the father of modern Turkey.
