Khair-eddin Barbarossa
Khair-eddin Barbarossa (c. 1483-1546), born Khair ad-Din, the brother and successor of
Horuk Barbarossa, was sovereign of Algiers. In early youth, he was notoriously known as Barbary pirate who succeded against many Christian vessels in the eastern Mediterranean Sea. He became viceroy of the Porte, made admiral under the sultan, opposed Andrea Doria, ravaged the coast of Italy, and joined the French against Spain. He died at Constantinople in 1546.
