Khammam

Khammam is a district in Telangana, a state of India. The town Khammam is its headquarters.

The name Khammam seems to have been derived from the name of the hill of Kamba here meaning a pillar. It was part of the larger Warangal District, till 1st October, 1953.

Khammam is located between 16° 45' and 18° 35 North Latitude and 79° 47' and 80° 47' East Latitude. Its boundary is in North - Krishna district, in East - East and West Godawari districts, in South - Krishna district, and in West - Nalgonda and Warangal Districts. Area of this district is 16,029 Sq. Kms.
