Kotilingalarevu
Kotilingalarevu is the name of a religious place in Rajahmundry in the state of Andhra Pradesh in India. It is situated on the banks of the Godavari River. Ferries are available here to cross the river. The banks of the river are dotted here by steps for taking bath in the sacred river. It is famous for the Kotilingeshwara Temple, which was constructed between the 10th and 11th centuries.
The tradition says that once the sage Gautama cursed the god Indra. To cure himself from the curse, the god Indra made a Shivalinga here and anointed the Linga with the waters from ten million rivers to free himself from the curse. The temple derives its name from the incident and has been known as Kotilingeshwara Temple since then.
A parallel legend tells us that the site of the temple used to home 10 million (Koti in Sanskrit) Shivalingas, and hence the name.
A tradition also says that the temple site was the place where Ravana, the demon king, used to pray to Lord Shiva.
