Kurung Kumey

Kurung Kumey is a district in the State of Arunachal Pradesh in India. It is situated approximately between 91°20' to 55°40' East Longitude and 28°30' to 38°04' North Latitude. The district is bounded by China in the north, East Kameng District in the west, Upper Subansiri District and Lower Subansiri District in the south and Papum Pare District in the East.

The district derives its name from twin rivers Kurng and Kumey, which form the Subansiri river, a tributary of Brahmaputra. On 1st April’2001 Kurung Kumey district was created as the 14th district of Arunachal Pradesh bifurcated from Lower Subansiri district with the district Headquarter at Koloriang which was set up temporarily at Palin with its camp office at Ziro.

Population of the district was 92,076 as per census 2011. It has an area of 6040 sq km.

There are 10 Community development blocks (CD Blocks) and 736 villages in the district.

The topography of the district is mostly mountainous a great part of its falls within the medium mountain Zone consisting peak & valleys.
