LAHORE

LAHORE, an ancient walled city on the Ravi, a tributary of the Indus, is the capital of the Punjab province of Pakistan, and an important railway centre; it has many fine buildings, both English and native, including a university and a medical school.

The district of Lahore is one of the most important in the province, is well irrigated by the Bári Doab Canal, and produces fine crops of cereals, pulse, and cotton.
