LEMNOS

LEMNOS, an island plateau of Greece in the Aegean Sea, 30 m. SW. of the Dardanelles, produces corn, wine, and tobacco, the population is mostly Greek; chief town Kastro, on the W. coast.

It came under Turkish control in 1657 and became a place of exile for Turkish prisoners; It again become part of Greece in 1912.
