!Lepakshi Lepakshi is a village in Andhra Pradesh in India. It is located in Anantapur district at about 13 km west of Hindupur town of the Kurnool district. It is the site of three famous temples that are dedicated to Lord Shiva and his consort Uma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Veerabhadra. The famous Veerabhadra Temple, which was constructed by two brothers – Viranna and Virupanna – in 1600. The architectural style of the temple is Vijayanagar architectural style and the temple is renowned for its beautiful sculptures adorning the walls.. The temple complex here is renowned for its ceiling-paintings and the intricately carved sculpture-columns. It is surrounded by two rectangular enclosure walls. Besides the Mandapas, Gopuras and subsidiary shrines it contains monolithic large figures of Nandi Bull and Nagalinga. The massive Nandi Bull is one of the major attraction of this complex which is made from a single granite stone. There is also the famous sculpture of the snake on the Nagalinga. The naga was also carved from a single block of stone. Though the basements and the superstructure are of carved stone, the brick towers over the sanctuaries are pyramidal in shape with domed roofs. Lepakshi also has a wonderful collection of mural paintings of the kings of Vijayanagar. There are also many Kannada inscriptions on the walls of the temples that are centuries old.
