Lima

Lima is the capital city of Peru. It is located at about 6 miles inland from Callao, and was founded in 1535 as the Ciudad de los Reyes. Its port was considered picturesque but by the beginning of 20th century it was somewhat a shabby city, 700 ft. above the sea-level, regularly built, with many plazas. It had a cathedral and 70 churches. Its trade was in the hands of foreigners, mostly Germans, and industries were unimportant. It was founded by Pizarro, and his bones lie buried in the cathedral. Its colonial center is preserved, and now it is a bustling metropolis and one of South America’s largest cities.
