Linden Forbes Sampson Burnham

Linden Forbes Sampson Burnham (1926-1985), Forbes Burnham in short, was a Guyanese politician. He was cofounded the Marxist-Leninist People's Progressive Party (PPP) (1949) and the more moderate socialist People's National Congress (1957). He became the Prime Minister of Guyana (1964), led Guyana to independence (1966), became president through elections marked by widespread complaints of rigging (1968 and 1973), became executive president under a new constitution (1980), and died while in office.
