Lloyd's

Lloyd's was a part of the Royal Exchange, London, for a time in 18th century, appropriated to the use of underwriters and for marine intelligence, frequented by those interested in merchant shipping. It was so called from Lloyd's Coffee-house, formerly the head-quarters of the class. The Royal Exchange was destroyed by fire in 1838, but was rebuilt by 1844. Lloyd's moved to Leadenhall Street in 1928, then to Lime Street in 1957, and then to a new building next to Leadenhall Market in 1986.
