Lok Sabha Elections

The Elections to the Lok Sabha, which is also known as the House of Representatives of the people or the Lower House, is referred to General Elections. The Constitution of India provides for these elections for a five year term. Electoral rolls are prepared so that every eligible person can vote for his choice of candidate. The whole of India is divided into Lok Sabha Parliamentary Constituencies. Candidates are allotted symbols either on behalf of their political parties or as independents. There are a set of electoral laws to guide the conduct of elections by the Election Commission of India. There is also a Model code of conduct for the contestant indivituals and political parties.
