Lord Cornwallis
Lord Cornwallis (1738-1805) was an English general and statesman. He saw service in the Seven Years' and the American Wars. He was besieged in the latter at York Town, and was obliged to capitulate. He became Governor-General of India, and forced Tippoo Sahib to submit to humiliating terms. As Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland crushed the rebellion of 1798. He was re-appointed Governor-General of India and died there.Nearby pages
