LOUISA MARY ALCOTT

LOUISA MARY ALCOTT, also known as Louisa May Alcott, (1832-1888), was a popular American authoress, who acted as a nurse to the wounded during the Civil War. She was also involved in the women's suffrage movement.

She was the author of children’s classic Little Women (1868-69), a novel based largely on her own experiences of a childhood in New England. It was written for adolescent girls. She subsequently also wrote sequels and related works. Her works are mostly addressed to the young, but she also wrote of adults.

She was daughter of Bronson Alcott, the famous transcendentalist and teacher.
