Lower Subansiri District
Lower Subansiri is a district in the State of Arunachal Pradesh in India. It is located approx between 92º40' - 94°21' East Longitude and 26°55" - 28°21' North Latitude, and is bounded on the North by Kurung-Kumey and Upper Subansiri Districts of Arunachal; on the South by Papum Pare District of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam ; on the East by West Siang and some part of Upper Subansiri ; and on the West by Kurung-Kumey and Papumpare Districts of Arunachal Pradesh.The district derives its name from the Subansiri River, which is a tributary to Brahmaputra.
The district is spread over an area of 3,460 (approx) sq km. Population of this district as per census 2011 was 83030.
On September 1, 1965, Subansiri Frontier Division was renamed as Subansiri District. On May 13, 1980, Subansiri District was bifurcated into Lower and Upper Subansiri District. On September 22, 1992, Lower Subansiri District was again bifurcated, and Papumpare District was formed.
The district has 8(eight) circles comprising of 226 villages. The district has been covered by 3 (three) CD Blocks namely Ziro-I, Ziro-II and Tamen- Raga.
