Lucius Domitius Aurelianus

Lucius Domitius Aurelianus (c. 215-275), also Aurelian, was a Roman emperor who ruled between 270 and 275. He was powerful in physique, and an able Roman emperor. He was son of a peasant of Pannonia, who later was distinguished as a skillful and successful general. In 270, he was elected emperor.

Aurelian drove the barbarians out of Italy; vanquished Zenobia, queen of Palmyra, carrying her captive to Rome; subdued a usurper in Gaul, and while on his way to crush a rebellion in Persia was assassinated by his troops.
