Luigi Pirandello

Luigi Pirandello (1867 - 1936) was an Italian dramatist, novelist, poet, and short story writer. He was awarded Nobel Prize for Literature in 1934 for "his almost magical power to turn psychological analysis into good theatre." However, he later he gave his Nobel Prize medal to the fascist government to be melted down as part of 1935 Oro all Patria (Gold to the Fatherland) campaign during the second Italo-Ethiopian War. His tragic farces are considered forerunners of the Theatre of the Absurd.
