Mahmud Ghazni was the ruler of Ghazni. He came to India in his first expedition in 1000. He was not only a merciless conqueror but also a greedy and ambitious ruler. The year 1025 witnessed his last invasion. It was during that time he invaded Somnath.

He raided India 17 times mainly for booty.
