Mansa

Mansa is a district in the State of Punjab in India. The district is located between 29°54'N and 75°14'E. It is bounded by Bathinda district in the north-west and Sangrur district in the north-east and the State of Haryana in the south.

The district is spread over 2,174 sq. km having a total population of 6,88,630 as per 2001 census.

There are 3 tehsils, five development blocks, and 241 gram panchayats in the district.

History

History of the district can be traced back to the Indus Valley Civilization.

Mansa district was formed on 13th April 1992 by carving it out from the erstwhile district of Bathinda.

The town is said to have been founded by Bhai Gurdas who hailed from Dhingar now in District Mansa.
