Marcionites

Marcionites of the 2nd Century were the people so called because of their being followers of Marcion. They believed that the traditional records of Christianity had been tampered with, and therefore they sought to restore Christianity to its original purity, taking their stand on the words of Christ and the interpretation of St. Paul as the only true apostle. They held that an ascetic life was of the essence of Christianity.
