Margaret Fuller

Margaret Fuller (1810-1850), full name Sarah Margaret Fuller, was an American writer, social critic, educator, and an editor known for her feminist views.

She was born at Cambridgepont, Mass. She was a woman of speculative ability and high aims and a friend of Emerson,
and much esteemed by Carlyle, though he thought her enthusiasm extravagant and beyond the range of accomplishment. She was one of the leaders of the transcendental movement in America. She visited Europe, and Italy in particular and engaged there in the struggle for political independence. She married the young Marquis of Ossoli. She sailed for New York, and was drowned with her husband and child on the sand-bars of Long Island.
