MARIA GAETANA AGNESI

MARIA GAETANA AGNESI (1718-1799) was an Italian philosopher and mathematician, a native of Milan, a woman of extraordinary ability and attainments. She was the first woman appointed to a university chair in mathematics, prelected for her father in mathematics in the University of Bologna under sanction of the Pope. She died a nun at her birthplace.

She is known for writing a textbook of mathematics.
