Mary McLeod Bethune

Mary McLeod Bethune (1875 — 1955), full name Mary Jane McLeod Bethune, was a US educator. She founded the Daytona Normal and Industrial Institute for Negro Girls in 1904. It became Bethune Cookman College in 1923 with Cookman Institute. She also founded National Council of Negro Women in 1935, became its first president and remained its president until 1949. She was also co-founder of the National Association of Coloured Women's Clubs.
