Medgar Evers

Medgar Evers (1926-1963) was an African-US civil rights activist. He was born in Mississippi. He was a successful insurance salesman, but during that period he met numerous poverty stricken African American rural folk. He was shocked at their poverty and quit the job to become full-time chapter organizer and field secretary for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People in Mississippi. He investigated murders of many African Americans. He was the first major civil rights leader to be assassinated.
