MEERUT

MEERUT is a town in the state of Uttar Pradesh in India. It is situated on the Nuddi, 40 miles north-east of Delhi. It headquarters the district of the same name.

During British Raj it was in the North-West Provinces, and was an Important military station. It is noted as the scene of the outbreak of the Mutiny in 1857.
