Meyer Amschel Rothschild
Meyer Amschel Rothschild (1744-1812) was a German-Jewish banker, the founder of the celebrated banking business, born at Frankfort-on-the-Main, a Jew by birth. He began his career as a money-lender and made a large fortune. He left five sons, who were all made barons of the Austrian empire - Amselm von Rothschild (1773-1855), eldest, head of the house at Frankfort; Solomon von Rothschild (1774-1855), the second, head of the Vienna house; Nathan von Rothschild (1777-1836), the third, head of the London house; Karl von Rothschild (1755-1855), the fourth, head of the house at Naples; and Jacob von Rothschild (1792-1868), the fifth, head of the Paris house.Nearby pages
