Microbiology

Microbiology is a branch of biology that deals with microorganisms, especially a bacterium, virus, or fungus. This branch of science is named as such by compounding the two words micro and biology meaning thereby the biology of microorganisms. Microorganisms are so called because these living organisms are not seen by naked eye but are microscopic.

The study of microbiology is not only used in medicine but also in biotechnology. In modern science, its application is extended to the health, food and biotech industries.
