Morena

Morena is a district in the State of Madhya Pradesh in India. It is located at between 26°18′N 78°00′E and 26.30°N 78.00°E.

Its headquarters is at Morena which gives the name to the district and the total area 4998.78 Sq km. Total population of this district is 1279.09 thousands. There are 799 villages in this district.

About 50 percent of the total geographical area is available for cultivation. About 58.74 percent of the cultivable area in the district is irrigated. Canal is the major source of irrigation which accounts for 42.94 percent of the total irrigated area.

The district is divided into 4 Sub Divisons, 6 Tehsils and 8 Nagar Palikas/Panchayats.

History

Morena has been a centre of human activity since ancient days. Remains of the Gupta period and Pratihar period are there.
