Mysore

Mysore was a native State in India during British raj, half the size of England, embedded in the Madras Presidency, occupied a lofty, broken, but fertile tableland. The upper waters of the Krisna and Kaveri were used for irrigation purposes. Betel-nut, coffee, cotton, rice, and silk were exported. Cloth, wheat, and precious metals were imported. The climate was healthy and pleasant. It came under British government in 1831, but was restored to its prince in 1881, under British protection. The capital was at Mysore, a prosperous, and well-built town.

Mysore town now headquarters a district of the same name in the state of Karnataka.
