Naini Tal is a lake in Nainital district of Uttarakhand in India. The lake derives its name from its being eye (in local dialect Nain) shaped. The importance of this lake lies in the fact that the very district and town derives their name from this lake itself. It is needless to say that this lake is the nucleus of all the beauties of the district. It is surrounded by seven hills. It looks beautiful in the day and also in the night. The north end of lake is called Mallital while the southern one is called Tallital. The lake offers opportunities for yachting, boating or paddling the boats. Tallital have a bridge known as Danth having Gandhiji's statue and post office on its sides. It is the only Post Office on any lake bridge of the world. Since it is located in the district headquarters, all the modern facilities are available to the people.
