Niyam

Niyam is a way of religious observance, the rules, in the traditional Hindu philosophy. Niyams are five in number - Shaucha (external an internal purity), Santosha (contentment), Tapas (religious austerity), Swadhyay (study and recitation of the Vedas and muttering or the chanting of the Divine Name) and Ishwar-Pranidhan (self-surrender to and meditation on God).
