North-West Provinces
North-West Provinces, also North-Western Privinces, was a province and lieutenant-governorship of British India. It was established in 1836 and exited until 1902 when United Provinces of Agra and Oudh replaced it. This administrative region embraced the upper portion of the Ganges Valley and Doab, and reached from Bengal to the Punjab, enclosing Oudh on all sides but the North. It was the area twice that of England, was the chief wheat province, and also raised opium, cotton, tea, and sugar. It was separated from Bengal in 1835, and with it in 1877 was conjoined Oudh. Allahabad was the capital of the North-West Provinces.Nearby pages
