Old Lady

Old Lady is a nickname for the Bank of England, the full name being the Old Lady of Threadneedle Street. The Bank of England declares on its website, "Our nickname the ‘Old Lady of Threadneedle Street’ dates back to a cartoon published in 1797 by James Gillray."
