Orleans

Orleans is a city in France, on the Loire, 75 miles by rail South West of Paris. It is the capital of the province of Loiret, a trading rather than an industrial town, commerce being fostered by excellent railway, canal, and river communications. The city is of ancient date, and its streets are full of quaint wooden houses. There is an old cathedral and museum. Many historic associations include the raising of the siege in 1429 by Joan of Arc, whose house is still shown, and two captures by the Germans in 1870.
