Pallavas of Kanchi

Pallavas of Kanchi came into prominence after the fall of the Andhras in the 3rd century. Sivaskandavarman was the first great Pallava king. Pallava kings were the patrons of Sanskrit and Brahmin culture and were enemies of Tamil Kingdoms. They were prominent during the middle of the 6th century to the middle of the 8th century. They were in constant fight with Chalukyas in the north and the Cholas in the south. Pallava dynasty was founded by Simhavishnu, the father of Mahendra Varman I. They got built the rock-cut raths (seven Pagodas) at Mahabalipuram.
