Pampapur

Pampapur is a place of historical and religious importance, located in Palkot block of Gumla district in the State of Jharkhand India. The place figures in the Ramayana, the holy book of Hindus that was probably composed during 6th century BC by the sage Valmiki. The Ramayana describes location of Pampapur and says it is located on Rishimukh Parvat.

Rishimukh mountain range in itself is a wonderful natural beauty. Palkot is situated in this range. However, there is a controversy about the location of this ancient Pampapur. Villagers believe that the ancient Pampapur is today’s Palkot. A number of places of the Ramayana era are situated in the neighborhood of Palkot, such as Anjan, (where Lord Hanuman was born), Ramrekha Dham (the place where Lord Rama and Sita spent some times during their vanvas (exile in the forest), Umra (where the hill is similar to Kiskindha mountain range description in the Ramayan) etc.

At Pampapur, there is a beautiful pond called Pampasar. This pond is spread in about 1000 sq ft. It is considered as an abode of mother goddess Pampa Bhawani. There is also a hidden doorway (cave) believed to an unknown place. This holy pond is situated on the upper part of Pampapur Mountain.
