PEDDAPURAM

PEDDAPURAM is a town in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh in India. It is famous for Sri Suryanarayana Swami Temple and Pandavula Metta.

It is located at a distance of 22 km from Kakinada, 45 km from Rajahmundry and 85 km from Amalapuram.

It is said that Pandav princes were living here in the thirteenth year of their exile without being detected by Kauravas. On their way to Rameswaram they stayed some years in Peddapuram on a hill, which was located in between Bay of Bengal and the river Godavari. The Pandava brothers arranged a tunnel way to Rajahmundry from this hill through which tunnel they used to have river bath. This hill was named after their name as PANDAVULA METTA. The entrance of the tunnel is there today. The rest of the tunnel was has now been disappeared.

It is on that very hill, a temple was constructed later.

The area was ruled by several rulers who constructed here even forts. This way, the place has not only religious but also historical importance.
