Penang

Penang is a small fertile island of the Prince of Wales Islands near the northern opening of the Straits of Malacca, off the Malay coast, and 360 miles northwest of Singapore.

It has been of strategic value. It is hilly, and covered with vegetation. The population are half Chinese and a fourth of them Malays. figs, spices, and tobacco are exported. Georgetown is its main town.
