PÉRIGORD

PÉRIGORD, an ancient territory of France, S. of Guienne, famous for its truffles, of which PÉRIGUEUX was the capital; united to the Crown of France by Henry IV. in 1589, it is now part of the department of Dordogne and part of Lot-et-Garonne.
